ISSUE 2

Welcome back to Pure Formes! For my second issue, I’m discussing the versatility of summer pieces that you can wear in the city but also on vacation. This season I’m only allowing myself to invest in something that has the versatility for New York City and London as well as places I am dreaming about such as Tuscany and the South of France. In my moodboard, I found inspiration through Anjelica Huston (I love a bold cuff this summer), Jane Birkin, the airiness of Georgia O’Keefe’s Ghost Ranch and enduring look of Phoebe Philo’s Céline.

1.

THE SHIRT

I live in classic men’s button downs from J. Crew and Charvet but this summer I’m updating my wardrobe with a striped band collar shirt from Officine Générale that I can wear from the city to the beach.

HOW TO WEAR IT …

This is one of my favorite summer city to vacation looks - a shirt worn slightly unbuttoned with a great trouser or open with a swimsuit and shorts. In the city, I would wear the shirt with my Toteme linen trouser and hand-stitched sandals from Agnes Baddoo. For those ordering from the UK, I also recommend A Emery black sandals. On the beach, I would wear it open with white denim shorts from Nili Lotan and a one-piece swimsuit from Eres.

2.

THE DRESS

Linen dresses have an ease about them and remind me of Tilda Swinton’s character from the film, A Bigger Splash. I’m drawn to the simplicity of this Datura dress styled open with the sleeves loosely rolled.

HOW TO WEAR IT …

The linen dress from Datura will go from beach to city with me all summer. For other white dresses, I also love this dress from Cos (if you are in the UK) and this from Anine Bing. On vacation, I would pair it with venetian slippers from Drogheria Crivellini. If you live in the UK or Europe, Telerie has my favorite colors (it also has the best sleepwear and linens if you ever travel to the store in Milan). For hats, Jenni Kayne has great packable options but Borsalino is also a favorite.

3.

THE CITY SHOE

Emme Parsons is my go-to shoe brand at the moment for summer styles. I’ve had my eye on this fisherman sandal for a few seasons but she’s updated it in a brown espresso color that I will definitely be purchasing.

HOW TO WEAR IT …

Skirts are having a moment this summer and have a lot of versatility. On holiday, I would wear the skirt over my Eres swimsuit with the Emme Parsons fisherman sandal or even with simple sandals from K. Jaques. Add a bold cuff from Lié Studios and a natural lip stain from Westman Atelier.

THE DESTINATION:

JOAN MIRÓ FOUNDATION

One of my favorite museums is the Joan Miró Foundation overlooking the city of Barcelona. It not only showcases his work but also his private collection of art. The building, designed by Josep Lluís Sert in 1975, works in tandem with Miró’s artwork, showcasing themes of color, light, space and their love of nature.
